Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair, commonly known as peach fuzz. It has been used for many years and is a simple shaving of the outer layer of the epidermis. Dermaplaning is a gentle treatment that is performed by using a surgical blade with a delicate touch that gently scrapes the outermost, superficial layers of the epidermis, therefore, ridding it of dead skin cells, impurities and vellus hair. The superficial removal leads to a deeper and more impactful treatment.

Vellus hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, therefore removing the hair gives our clients a healthier, cleaner, and smoother look. Many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after Dermaplaning. This is simply not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment. No need to worry about thick hair growth!

This treatment is an excellent way to exfoliate the skin and to regenerate new skin cells thus leaving the complexion smooth, soft and vibrant. Dermaplaning is a fantastic pre-treatment for our Cell Renewal treatments including the Signature Chemical Peel or Microdermabrasion.

Can I Combine Them with Other Treatments?

Yes! Combination therapies often lead to the best results. Dermaplaning can be added on to any facial treatments.

Dermaplaning gets rids of the peach fuzz so that the treatment following can be the most effective possible. It essentially cleans the skin so that treatment and product are able to penetrate the skin deeper.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Face, Neck, Chest, and Back, and essentially any other areas that could benefit from cell renewal.

How Often Should I Do This Treatment?

Depending on your skin concern, Dermaplaning can be done 2-4 weeks apart. For best results, your Aesthetician will guide you in the most productive direction.

How Do I Prepare for This Treatment?

Please avoid using any retinol or products with active ingredients at least 5 days prior as your skin may be more sensitive. Be sure to let your esthetician know any products currently in your skincare regimen.

If receiving skin treatments while using medications such as Accutane, make sure to mention this to your attending esthetician before treatment begins

Is There Downtime?

There is no downtime with Dermaplaning for the most part. Some patients can experience mild redness post-treatment that subsides on its own within hours. It is completely reasonable to have a Dermaplaning treatment on your lunch break and go back to work looking refreshed and glowing!

Post-Care Recommendations:

Always wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher following a cell renewal treatment (even in the winter months). Do not apply make-up for at least 4 hours. Do not exfoliate for a minimum 48 hours after treatment. Other specified instructions will be given at appointment.
